Hailing from the culturally vibrant Washington DC area, Zedicus has crafted a sound that defies boundaries, fusing reggae, rock, alternative, and world music into an irresistible sonic tapestry.

Zedicus, a prolific singer/songwriter who brings a global perspective to his music, has released a self-titled solo CD, several singles and an album with New York City-based Ethio-fusion band, Admas.  A natural collaborator, he has worked with renowned international artists such as Maxi Priest, the Itals, Mahmoud Ahmed, Omar Hakim, Aster Aweke, Gigi, Dave Wakeling, SOJA, and HR from Bad Brains, performing at iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Wolftrap, and the Town Hall.

Zedicus works with friends and family who make up his band, Abyssinia Roots.  They are a pool of accomplished musicians who, in their individual careers, have played with well-known bands such as Gogol Bordello, Culture, and the Wailers.  Over the years, Zedicus and Abyssinia Roots have opened for major artists such as Steel Pulse, Third World, Burning Spear, the Wailers and Stephen Marley. From renowned venues in the DC area such as the 9:30 Club, the Fillmore and the Hamilton, to international tours and festivals, they have left audiences entranced by their infectious rhythms and engaging stage presence.

Zakki Jawad, a.k.a. ZEDICUS, is an Ethiopian born musician based in the Washington DC area, and has been performing in world music and reggae circles for over 18 years. Currently a member of seminal Ethio-fusion group, ADMAS, this is his first solo release. Zakki has spent a good deal of his life living in different countries around the world (in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America), experiences resulting in the broad range of styles and influences evident on this album. The self-titled debut CD is a conglomeration of songs falling under Reggae, Rock, Alternative, and World Music banners, with several tracks (5) currently on regular rotation on 'The Joint' (XM Satellite Radio). Zakki has performed and/or recorded with world renowned artists such as Maxi Priest (UK), the Itals (Jamaica), Omar Hakim (US), Jean-Marie Tala (Cameroon), HR (from Bad Brains - US), Dave Wakeling (English Beat/General Public - UK), Mahmoud Ahmed, Aster Aweke and Gigi (Ethiopia), and opened for major acts such as Third World, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Mutabaruka, Toots & the Maytals, Alpha Blondy, the Wailers and Lucky Dube. ZEDICUS performs regularly in and around Washington with a few longtime band mates, dubbed 'Zedicus and the A.R.C. (Abyssinia Roots Collective)'. The shows are energetic and fun, and over time have resulted in a devoted fan base. This solo project follows the completion of two albums by ADMAS, the critically acclaimed 'Indigo Sun', and the second produced by legendary producer Bill Laswell, yet to be releaseZedicus and Abyssinia Roots perform locally at clubs, festivals, and iconic venues such as the 9:30 Club, the Fillmore, the Hamilton, and the State Theater.Zedicus has worked with world renowned artists such as Mahmoud Ahmed, Maxi Priest, the Itals, Omar Hakim, Jean-Marie Tala, HR, Dave Wakeling, Aster Aweke, Gigi, Midnite, SOJA, and Black Sheep, including perfomances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Wolftrap, and Town Hall (NYC).
